To All my Friends from Glen Lake Animal Hospital
As many of you know, I have been absent from my post here at the hospital for many months now. On December 11, 2010, I was very seriously injured in an automobile accident in southwest Minnesota. My friend, Joe Roach and I, along with our dogs, Shadow, ZuZu, Vee, and Belle, were making our way home from a pheasant hunt, when we were hit by a tractor trailer truck from behind.Fortunately, we all survived, but my injuries were severe. Joe spent the night in the Sanford Medical Center in Worthington and was treated for concussion and cuts to his head. He was released the next day, but is still dealing with the effects of his injuries today. Our dogs were well cared for by the fireman and ambulance crew for the next 2 days at the Adrian, Minnesota firehouse. My injuries gave me the opportunity to take a helicopter ride the next morning to the Avera McKennan Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to their Level 3 Trauma Center.
I have been asked many times, and have told the story as much as I remember, to many people. I have found it helpful to be open about it – not for sympathy, but so folks know my situation.
